Easily Change Your Wedding Makeup from Day to Night: Pro Tips

Although it's one of the best days of your life, your wedding day can also be one of the longest. In many cases you wake up at the crack of dawn, get your hair and makeup done - and it's go-go-go until you crash in the wee hours of the morning. Glo Skin Beauty's wedding makeup tips will make your bridal makeup last all day as well as help you transition from a day look for the ceremony to a night look for the reception.

Wedding Makeup That Lasts

The most important step for wedding makeup that lasts is prepping your skin. Skin that is properly hydrated and moisturized will stay more balanced throughout the day, plus mineral makeup adheres more easily to hydrated skin. Prep your lips with a nourishing balm and use a daily moisturizer over your face, neck and décolleté - giving your skin at least 15 minutes to absorb the product before applying makeup.

Don’t forget a light layer of face primer. Primer will even the skin’s surface, helping to smooth over texture and pores while also filling in fine lines. Foundation that is applied right the first time is much easier to touch up and will keep you from looking “cakey” later in the day.

If your skin becomes oily, gently blot away the shine with blotting papers by lightly pressing the sheets against your skin, being careful not to rub or drag away your foundation. If your skin is dry, spritz your face with a facial mist to rehydrate and give your skin a boost.

Wedding Makeup: Day to Night

Many brides like to wear a different wedding dress to the ceremony and reception, but a much more affordable option for changing up your look is to switch up your makeup. Taking your look from day to night is as easy as 1, 2, 3.

  1. Swap your lipstick. We’ve all heard the phrase “your lips but better,” and that’s exactly the type of shade that’s perfect for a daytime ceremony. Keep your reception lipstick natural with a midtone, warm rose or a pink mauve for a subtle change, or really give them something to talk about with a rich wine hue or deep, cool red.
  2. Add darker colors to your eyes. To amp up your eye makeup, add an espresso brown or charcoal grey to the outer corners of the eye and blend outward to create a smoky effect and a seamless color transition. Add this same shade to the lower lashline with a smudge brush and pop on a pair of false lashes for that extra oomph.
  3. Contour your face. For your day look, add a dewy flush to your cheeks with cream blush and a subtle highlight with an illuminator. For your night look, add depth to your features by applying a contour powder just below the cheek bones and along the hairline. Bronzer can look different depending on the lighting, so it’s best to use a powder specifically designed for contouring that’s on the cooler side.
